Love It : Beyoncé is Back & Black with “Formation”

Do you love surprises? I personally do! So I what thrilled yesterday when, Beyoncé slays in surprise new music video, ‘Formation’, released via Tidal. On the eve of her Super Bowl performance with Coldplay and Bruno Mars, Beyoncé returns with a Southern-seasoned single co-written by Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee and produced by Mike WiLL Made-It. The song which runs nearly five minutes is funky and the video is a representation of the best of #BlackGirlMagic, #BlackLivesMatter and #BlackPride. And that’s what separates it from most of her other mainstream work. The video messages relating to race, identity and black culture, is filled with powerful imagery, including young kid in a black hoodie dancing in front of a lineup of cops, a sinking New Orleans police car, and a wall painted with the words “Stop Shooting Us.” There’s also a great cameo from  Blue Ivy, who’s rocking her natural hair. The video quickly drew praise from singer Solange and other celebratory. Bey sings :

“I like my negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils. Earned all this money, but they never take the country out me,”

“I got hot sauce in my bag. Swag!”

“Formation” is available for free download on TIDAL. Beyonce has also launched her “Formation Collection” of clothing featuring lyrics like “I twirl on them haters” and “You that bitch when you cause all of this conversation.”

Go slay, Bey.
